Sunday Round-Up 18/07/2021

–SUNDAY ROUND UP– A few things I’ve found useful/inspiring this week of the #100repchallenge: Poetic Forms This week I experimented with the Lune form in two poems #071: An awful microwave and #072: FOMO at bedtime. I specifically focused on the Collum lune where the pattern goes 3 words, 5 words, 3 words. An even greater efficiency challenge would be the Kelly lune: 3 syllables, 5 syllables, 3 syllables. If you fancy having a go yourself, you can check out a great article about it here. Poems How to Get Riches – curiosity led me to looking at anaphorisms and I stumbled across this poem by Benjamin Franklin. Poetry Films band-aids & other temporary healings -created by Pat Heywood and Jamil McGinnis in partnership with Urban Word NYC. Multitudes -created by Manuel Cinema and Poetry Foundation. Poetry from “Song of Myself” by Walt Whitman. Films Funny Girl- Dir William Wyler Sunday’s Quote   Life’s candy and the sun’sA ball of butter “Don’t Rain on My Parade’” by Bob Merrill & Jule Styne from the musical …

#054: Stories as secrets of survival

When we’ve had our fill of chlorophyll Getting ready for those purple days We’ve earnt our ancestral anthocyanins Time to pass on our earthly essays . Of how we tried? We tried to try? Oh, what a life! Oh, how we tried! . When their elders transferred, they lived on in the trunk of the tree So their deep-rooted wisdom greeted the collective on the daily Tales not simply tales but secrets of survival branded on bark What letters will we leave so our buds aren’t abandoned in the dark?

#045: all this time/sunday roundup

All this time spent on the what’s And hows How’s about I deposit a why? . Hello World and Happy Sunday! 45% in to my #100repchallenge, I’ve realised I’ve never actually sat down to write a post about why I’m doing this. This challenge is about posting a creation (usually a poem) every day for 100 days. The number of course is arbitary but it’s never usually about the numbers is it? It’s about sitting down at my desk with some hot lemon and ginger tea, or apple juice or a raspberry smoothie and marking out space in my day dedicated to writing and play. As well as building an active practice, a goal of mine since last year has been to learn more about poetry technique. Thanks to the internet, I’ve found so many helpful and mostly free digital resources for developing craft. I thought it’d be a great idea to track this progress and share my findings and insights on Sundays about the things that inspire me, the techniques I’m learning and the …

#007: To Build A Tongue

This week I made a tongue out of digital ink Fibrillating muscle crafted by equally twitchy fingertips Fingertips that played staccato scales on non-musical keyboards Fingertips that scratched the skin off inedible apples Scoured juvenile journals made of trees and mystical code To make an abode out of ethereal brain pickings. . This week the hand that held this tongue Refreshed the pages of instant gratification Hovered over that which is secular And that which is sacred Tongue asked the Hand: Where is the line and who made it? . Only time will tell if this tongue will become a tome A north star towards home Or perhaps just a throne made of experimental fictions In want of a place of their own.
